Pocket Garden

Outdoor space is a precious resource in our dense urban environment, so we carved out a well-programmed and highly functional “pocket garden” within this compact corner lot. As space was limited, it was especially important to create a comfortable sanctuary through deliberate design details and fine materials. Custom black slatted fencing, substantial limestone pavers and a considered planting scheme combine to create a soothing and contemplative atmosphere in the curated outdoor lounge. By shifting an existing fence, a once unused, narrow space adjacent to the house has become a sunken dining room that includes a French pea gravel floor and an oversized black metal pergola, softened by climbing hydrangea, creating a sense of the unexpected for an intimate refuge within the city.
